Show JC!OS0 I ) 01" .t; 3 E a S E C 3 . 2 Ti : 3 2 s'o.s.e1i;sv1 331 13 T3 t3 u2 ft, D, The Marriott Library is closing the east entrance an leaving the west exit open late in an effort to adjust to two percent budget cut imposed on the University by t state The library officials chose to leave the west entrance opt because it is closer to the west parking lot. We realize flu fewer employees will help make up the two percent. But, ft: lot is mostly "A" parking for faculty and staff. The major! of students are forced to park either in the Union or t Business parking lots. Both of these lots are closer to the ea; entrance, but library officials still closed it. Some students are wondering if closing the entrance use by students was an attempt to irritate students. Otk wonder if it was done to cause student protest to force it University administration to find additional funds for ft library. The closing of the east entrance is an example of how building, built by student funds is not bein run fort students. In fact not even in the interest of the University ! seems that the physical plant and operation is more impc: tant than its purpose. Before the number of students usl the library drops off considerably, as it will with studer 1 becoming discouraged with increased limitations, it is imps' ' tive that library administrators re-examine priorities. St dents complain because the library is too hot; because! buzzing makes it difficult to concentrate and now becai the doors are being closed. ., Perhaps the two percent cutback could better be hanc by reducing the heat and shutting off the humidifiers M of closing the entrance. The budget has to be reduced W should be done in such a way that it does not hinder of the building. Forcing students out of the library sounds absurd and; that is what is happening. At an institution of learning, library is one of the main focuses and yet physical poW are destroying its contribution. |
