Pioneer Memorial Theatre has been in negotiations for several years to get the winner win-ner of the New York Drama Critics' Crit-ics' award for best musical. "Man of La Mancha" will star Robert Peterson, as Quixote. Mr. Peterson has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Studio in New York City. He took over Robert Goulet's role in Camelot on Broadway, Broad-way, and played both Lancelot and Arthur on the national tour of "Camelot." In Salt Lake City Mr. Peterson has performed at the Valley Music Hall in "Kiss Me Kate" and with the summer production of "Promised Valley." Mr. Peterson graduated from the University as well as beginning his career here in the Summer Festival productions of "La Trav-iata," Trav-iata," "Aida," and "La Boheme." He has studied at the Julliard School of Music, Hunter College and the Chatham Square Music School. "Man of La Mancha" is the story of Cervantes and his most famous character, Don Quixote de la Mancha. In "Man of La Mancha," Cervantes has been arrested ar-rested by the Inquisition for his writing and thrown into prison to await trial. Cervantes' cell mates demand a trial first, to decide whether they will accept him into their friendship. Cervantes' only defense is his novel, and a trunk full of costumes. He decides to produce a play in the dungeon, using the other prisoners as his characters. He will act the role of Quixote and removes the makeup make-up from his trunk that transforms him from the scholar to the knight errant. Quixote goes on his quest, seeking the ideal and a fair maiden maid-en whose honor he can champion. After fighting the dragon (which |
