Show Lots of people Carnival, dance great success "The booths themselves were unique," continued Young. "Some of the most original were a tricycle tri-cycle race, and turtle races. The booths were sponsored by groups within the LDSSA, campus service serv-ice organizations and by six Valley Val-ley high schools. Golf carts, that were used Thursday and Friday to advertise the carnival on campus, were on hand to give rides over the extensive ex-tensive grounds. The day was culminated cul-minated by a stomp in the University Uni-versity Union. It featured S t. Thomas Axis, Skim Milk and a light show by Five Fingers on My Hand. "It is difficult to estimate how many people actually attended 'The Greatest Show of Worth' activities, ac-tivities, but estimates surpass 2,500 people," said Young. The LDSSA Carnival and stomp is the most extensive community service event that has to this time been sponsored on the University campus. Proceeds from the day's activities will go to Project Outreach, Out-reach, a minorities scholarship at the University; Boys Ranch; Youngtown; and the Latter-day Saint Church Program for the Handicapped. Bob Welti had lemon pie thrown in his face, a young couple got engaged "for real" in the marriage mar-riage booth and the sun shone when it was expected to rain. All this was part of "The Greatest Show of Worth" Carnival sponsored spon-sored by the Latter-day Saint Student Stu-dent Association (LDSSA) at the East Institute Complex Saturday. "We were very pleased with the results of the Carnival," said Mel Young, co-chairman of t h e event. "Many groups within the LDSSA and on campus, as well as high schools in the city, worked well together for the success of the day." Hundreds of students and people peo-ple in the community participated in the carnival. The day's activities activi-ties included 40 booths; two shows provided by the Deeburger clown; a series cartoon; a Davy Crockett Crock-ett movie; a side show that featured fea-tured among other things, a fire twirler, Polynesian dancers, the Marketplace Singers, a melodrama melodra-ma and, a magician. |
