Show si x 'Distinguished' chemistry prof. Dr. Cheves Walling has been named Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at the University, effective effec-tive July 1, 1970. This internationally interna-tionally famous chemist will resign re-sign from Columbia University to : accept his new position. He has ! been teaching at the University of I Utah since July 1, 1969. ; Dr. David M. Grant, professor : and chairman of the Department ' of Chemistry, says Dr. Walling "is , an eminently qualified senior fac ulty member with an international reputation who will provide ma- ture leadership in the future development devel-opment of the department's organic or-ganic chemistry program." Dr. Waiting's fields of interest are physical-organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry, and free radical reactions. reac-tions. He has published over 100 research papers in these fields and is the author of a monograph on free radical reactions. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Walling's appointment brings the total number of distinguished distin-guished professors in the Department Depart-ment of Chemistry to three. The others are Dr. Henry Eyring and Dr. Robert W. Parry. |
