Show Sailor hats and smiles evidence fraternal enthusiasm LDS Groups Note Gains While neither fraternities nor sororities sor-orities are unique to any university, univers-ity, it is a different situation to have some on campus sponsored by religious organizations. At the University of Utah there are but two such groups, both sponsored by the LDS Church, Pi Beta and Lambda Delta Sigma. Consisting of eight chapters and having a membership of 600 women, wo-men, Lambda Delta Sigma's activities activi-ties are coordinated by a central committee known as the IC. Each individual chapter elects its own officers and functions in the same way as a sorority chapter. Membership Open Lambda De'ta differs from most sororities because it is less selective selec-tive and has lower dues. Although it is sponsored by the LDS Church, membership is net restrictea to LDS girls only. "Membership is open to any girl living 'LDS Church standards, basically bas-ically keeping th3 word of wisdom and leading a clean life," commented commen-ted Nancy . Livingstone, LamDda Delta Sigma President. Chapters cannot vote to exclude any women, living LDS standards. As a service organization, Lambda Lamb-da Delta recently took several groups of needy children on a picnic pic-nic and to pioneer village. Not strictly limited to service projects, the group also sponsors many social soc-ial activities including a "Winter-Formal."
