Show Pokes Down Utes for Crown The Wyoming Cowboys handed the Utah Redskins three straight losses Friday and Saturday Sat-urday at Laramie to vault into the Northern Division WAC Championship. The scores were: 6-3, 16-3 and 4-3. IN THE first game Wyoming's Barry Johnson scattered three hits and struck out 12 Redskins to give the Pokes the opening victory in a 6-3 win over the Utes. The Cowboys took advantage of four Utah errors in the second sec-ond game of Saturday's double-header double-header and sweep into the Northern Division championship by a score' of 4-3. THE POKES clobbered the Utes 16-3 in the first game as the 'Skins' gloves came apart in making an unbelievable 11 errors, with the Cowboys smashing smash-ing 16 hits. Wyoming meets Southern champion Arizona next weekend at Laramie in a three game series to determine the WAC title. The Utes came on strong with three runs in the sixth inning Saturday on singles by Mike Beyeler, Jack Gehrke, Dave Ed-, monds and Tex Tolman. |
