Show Link Combines Old, Modern By GARY SPANGLER The tradition of the class link was initiated by the graduating graduat-ing seniors in the year of 1920. The link submitted by thai class was a rectangular formed piece of steel with the year 1919-1920 etched in the side of it. As the chain grew in length, it's tradition also grew in the fact that it was used for the annual tug-of-war contest which was an integral part of the U.Days week. WITH THE evolvement of the links into various geometrical forms and representative shapes, it soon became impractical for use in the tug-of-war contest and was retired to the Union Information Infor-mation Desk where it lies idle to be admired and added to by those of the successive graduating classes. The winning link design this year was proposed by Darron Lillian. Darron, a junior majoring in art, felt that the link should be as modern as possible in the style of lettering, but still preserve pre-serve some of the traditional aspect of the chain. |
