Show Escorts Remove eSign In The East9 Charlie' Brown9 Meets The United States Army By HARRIS VINCENT Chronicle Staff Writer The sign in the East has disappeared. Late Monday afternoon Charlie Brown was evicted from his early American home on the foothills above the campus. OFFICIALS FROM Fort Douglas greeted Charlie at his "tipi" as he returned from a visit to the Union Huddle. They informed him that he was trespassing and that his medicine "tipi" would have to be removed. Charlie, of course, complied. Charlie reported, "Being my nice co-operative, cheerful, friendly self, I enlisted the help of he soldiers to remove my tipi' ". THE SOLDIERS, who had removed their customary name tags, did assist Mr. Brown in lugging his belongings down the hill. Charlie stated that "it was really a gas to see that military officer dragging 10 of my tipi' poles down the hill." Campus police met the little parade at the edge of University property. The officers apparently wanted to assure that Charlie did not pitch his "tipi" on the campus. This is the first time that Charlie has been asked to remove his "tipi" by federal authorities. Charlie stated that all total there were about 10 soldiers on the hill to form the official escort. Charlie reported that they appeared ap-peared out of the brush at several sev-eral points. Lieutenant Purvis, the duty officer at the fort, told the "Chronicle" that he was under directive not to make any comment. com-ment. Several other officers also answered in the same way. CHARLIE will repitch his tent in the backyard of a friend. He has had approximately 20 visitors visi-tors to his nylon home on the hill. Our own Officer Farnsworth escorted a party up the hill to visit Charlie early Monday. Charlie intends to leave Salt Lake sometime today. His next stop will te Boulder, Colo., where his brother is a physics teaching assistant. THIS STEP will also not be of any great length for Charlie is anxious to get to Central Park. He feels secure that he will be able to do much towards the spread of the "new age" through his activities. Many Utes blamed Charlie for the "Freedom Under Clark Kerr" sign that appeared above the block "U" Monday morning. Charlie disclaims any connection.
