Show Golfers Gear For Y Play ACTUALLY, McGuire feels that his team has a chance for an upset this Friday. In the first get together of the season between be-tween the Utes and Cougars, the Utah club was leading 6-3 after nine holes, but dropped the contest con-test on the second nine with a final score of 17-10. This was a close match and was on the Cougar's home course. The home course advantage ad-vantage should help the Redskins Red-skins Friday. McGuire will go with the Summerhays brothers, Tom Morgan, Mor-gan, Jim Farrell, Steve Thayne and John Clay. Ute golf team is scheduled to meet Utah State today at Logan and then the big Western Athletic Ath-letic Conference tussle against BYU is slated for Friday at 1:30 p.m. on the University golf course. THE MEET at Logan will be at 1 p.m. The Utes did a fine job at Colorado Springs last weekend when they placed fifth in the Pike's Peak Invitational. Some of the top collegiate golf teams in the nation were in this meet and the Redskins' Bruce Summerhays Sum-merhays tied for medalist honors in the event. COACH VINNIE McGuire was very pleased with his team's showing in the Colorado Springs meet but was quick to point out that BYU took first in the affair and makes this Friday's chore a real big one for his golfers. Besides Summerhays, several other Utes did well at the Springs. Gary Summerhays, Tom Morgan and Jim Farrell all played well in the Pike's Peak affair. This is the highest finish a Utah team has ever had in this meet. |
