J:r : , j i I Vr 'si.- - - i .? : :J I ' h Newspaperman Reports On Trouble Spots Journalism Society Sponsors Far Eastern Lecture A distinguished newsman with a Wide background in reporting report-ing on the Far East will discuss Oriental trouble spots, including Viet Nam, at the Theta Sigma Phi Matrix Banquet at the University May 24 at 7 p.m. Theta Sigma Phi is a national organization for women in journalism. WILLIAM (BILL) K. Hosokawa, associate editor of the "Denver "Den-ver Post" and editorial director of "Empire Magazine" will give a "Far East Report." Mr. Hosokawa joined "The Denver Post" in 1946 and has held a wide variety of editorial positions including executive news editor and assistant managing editor. MR. HOSOKAWA went to Korea in 1950 as "The Post's" first war correspondent. He also visited Viet Nam last summer, covered the anti-U.S. student riots in Tokyo in 1960, and the Summit conference con-ference in Paris that same year. As an editor, he was responsible for starting "The Post's" Contemporary magazine and the Sunday Perspective section. BEFORE WORLD War II, Mr. Hosokawa worked on newspapers news-papers in Singapore and Shanghai. He worked for the "Des Moines Register" prior to his position on "The Denver Post." LONDONER VISITS UNIVERSITY Desmond Heap, Comptroller Comp-troller and City Solicitor of the Corporation of London, will be on campus May 17-19. His visit will introduce him to many students who are interested in the legal andor towne planning fields. He will be lecturing during his stay in Utah. The Matrix Banquet will cap off a day-long program of journalism events on May 24th at the University. Beginning with a breakfast and the annual awards presentation at 7 a.m., "Journalism Day" Will get under way. MITZI GLAUSER, retiring president of the University's chapter of Theta Sigma Phi, will conduct the banquet. She will report re-port outstanding achievements made by local members of Theta Sigma Phi. Paul Smith, president of Sigma Delta Chi, will report on honors given to members of the men's journalism fraternity. Alumni, friends of the journalism journal-ism department and the public are invited to attend the banquet. ban-quet.
