Show Parking Fee Hike For Studentbody The $7.50 parking fee will be used in part for new parking facilities, upkeep of present facilities fac-ilities and to accomodate the approximated 1,000 more students stu-dents who will be entering the University next fall, according to Mark Money, assistant to Business Vice President Paul Hodson. MR. Money explained that the hike was a necessary one to improve the campus parking facilities. With the higher enrollment en-rollment next year, more officers will be needed to police the area and more parking lot space will be required. The money will also be used to help replace lots that will have to be discontinued dis-continued because of new construction con-struction in the area. Upon studying the decal fee with respect to similar parking fees on other campuses, the Regents Re-gents decided that a decal fee, which affects only the 75 students stu-dents who do drive on campus, was too low. UCLA requires a $25 fee and University of California Cal-ifornia requires $50 now and will assess a $75 fee for next year. The University of Southern California Cal-ifornia charges $25 per quarter for students to use the campus parking facilities. The fee is not one that will cover all the parking improvements. improve-ments. Mr. Money reported that the University will have to go to the Utah State Legislature for the needed money for capital improvements. |
