Show Utes-BYU Meet Today In WACTest The battle for the northern division leadership in the Western West-ern Athletic Conference baseball race continues today in Provo when the Utes tangle with the Cougars for the fourth time. THE REDSKINS hold a 2-1 edge over the defending northern north-ern division champs after half of the six game series has been recorded. Utah squeaked out a 9-8 win in the opener and dropped the second game, 13-7. Last week Utah topped the Cougars 9-5 to take the lead in the north' ;rn section. DENNIS UDY and Dave Var-vel Var-vel have been the mainstays in the Ute pitching staff and one of the two should start today. Udy, a right hander from Garland, has both wins while Varvel has pitched eight innings and allowed allow-ed only six earned runs. Gary Selby's bat will lead the Ute hitters as the Redskin catcher cat-cher carry's a .S30 batting average aver-age into the game. Craig Mc-Ikay Mc-Ikay is currently hitting .461 and will be a key factor. Jerry Fisher is knocking the ball at a .310 clip. |
