Show 'Serenade ? To Open Ballet Gala "Serenade" and "Romeo and Tuliet" will highlight "Ballet Ga la," to be presented next week (May 5-9) in Kingsbury Hall. Prof. William Christensen, head of the ballet department, has an unusual program in store for audiences this year: a ballet that has not been presented for 11 years, a world premier, a Utah premier and a fast coming traditional tra-ditional ballet, EACH PERFORMANCE will begin with "Serenade." This world famous ballet was recently recent-ly glen to the Utah Ballet Society So-ciety by George Balanchine, artistic ar-tistic director of the New York C ty Ballet Company. Described as a "harmonious blend of the Classic style and romantic aura," "Serenade" is a masterpiece of subtlety and serene beauty. Second on the program will , be "Romeo and Juliet," first presented In Utah 11 years ago. Choreographed by William Wil-liam Christensen, this work is staged in commemoration of the 400th anniversary o f Shakespeare's birth. "Pas de Dix," William Chris-tensen's Chris-tensen's latest ballet, is a light and brilliant show-piece. Shaded with bits of the Scotch Highland High-land Fling, it is a challenging piece for soloists of the University Univer-sity Theater Ballet. Gaiety will end the evening with Lew Christensen's "Con Amore." Although a familiar sight to Utahns, the charm of this mixed-up ballet increases with each presentation. |
