Show Scholarships Offered Science Teachers Fifty University of Utah scholarships each covering tuition, books, travel and living expenses for a full year are waiting applications from high school science teachers. The University of Utah is one of 16 American' universities which will share $4 million from the National Science Foun- dation, to give advanced training train-ing to high school science teachers. teach-ers. Dr. T. J- Parmley, professor of physics and chairman of the new scholarship program for Utah, this week announced that Utah's share in the funds will be $280,000. The ultimate aim of the program pro-gram is to interest more high school students in science careers ca-reers and to keep the United States ahead of Russia in the science race- The scholarship program will help achieve this aim, Dr. Parmley said, by improving im-proving the quality of instruction instruc-tion in the sciences at the high school level. The University of Utah will offer a new degree Master of Science Education to teachers who study under the scholarships. scholar-ships. Teachers in every grade are eligible to apply for the National Na-tional Science Foundation grants. For grants through the University of Utah, the teachers of Utah and the intermountain region will receive preference, Dr. Uarmley said. Scholarship winners will begin their year o'f study next September. The funds, he said, will make these allowances to each teacher: teach-er: Full tuition, $50 for books, up to $160 for travel, and an allowance of $3,000 plus $300 for each dependent, for living expenses.
