Show SIX RACES LISTED FOR FIRST DAY OF CELEBRATION Six horse races and six Gymkhana Gym-khana events have been scheduled sched-uled for opening day of the annual an-nual '49ers celebration, according accord-ing to Gordon Murdock, racing chairman for the two days. The, meet will open with the grand entry of all contesting teams, officials, visiting dignitaries, and '49er queen candidates, promptly at 1 p. m. Friday, May 25th. Gymkhana events include a pole bending event between two i members of each team; barrel race, ring spearing contest, mounted tug of war between Milford and Minersville teams, a trailer race, "musical pairs," and a pony express relay with three teams competing. Flat races scheduled are a Vmile kid pony race woman's race, stock saddle race, Vz mile free for all,' 38 mile free for all, and V4-mile free for all. Governor J. Bracken Leo advised the committee this week that he would definitely attend one day of the celebration, celebra-tion, and that "it would be interesting in-teresting to judge the special mayor's horse race on Saturday Satur-day afternoon." He refrained from definitely committing himself to a Saturday appearance, appear-ance, because of possible interference in-terference of other duties, but said he would "definitely try" to attend Saturday afternoon. Ted Cannon, Deseret News columnist, telephoned The Milford Mil-ford News and announced that he would arrive on the ' Friday Fri-day afternoon train and remain through the Saturday evening festivities. Mr. Cannon and Dan Valentine of the Salt Lake Tribune will be chief judges oi the '49er Queen contest, and will officiate, along with Gov Lee, at the mayor's race. Entries in the queen contest are coming in, Commander Ray Walker said, and each organization or-ganization of the city is invited to nominate a candidate. Judging Judg-ing will be on pulchritude, poise, beauty and personality.
