Show MILFORD THINCLAD CREW SETS CEDAR RECORDS MilforcTs track squad is too small in numbers to ever win a track meet on points, but the Pettey-coached thinclads seem destined to set new records in all their meets. At Cedar City last week, in the region trials which precede the state meet, Boyd White set a new track mark for the 880, and Allen Weston clipped time off the record in the mile. Boyd broke the tape in the 880 at 2:05.5, and Weston stepped the mile in 4.05.5. Gale Anderson also qualified for the state meet by finishing third in the shot put, a few inches back of Workman of Dixie and Whitney of Parowan. Boyd Horton would have qualified for the hurdles and might have won the event, as he was picking up on the leaders when he tripped over the next to last hurdle, and suffered a broken arm as he hit the track. This year's squad consisted of one senior, two juniors, and the rest were sophomores and freshmen, according to Coach Pettey. "The boys really gave their all this time," Coach Peltey said, ."and they should show up very well at the state meet. When Boyd White hit the finish line he had been digging so hard, determined to keep Bunker Bunk-er of Delta from catching him, that he fell, exhausted, over the finish line. When they 'give' like that, they deserve every honor they receive." |
