Show EXCELLENT ESSAYS From the M H S English Class Mr. Bartholomew, Teacher LIVING IN MY COMMUNITY By Patricia Wilcock The family, church, and school are all very important in a community. These all provide pro-vide education which is vitally important for everyone. We should be educated so that we will be capable of taking a successful suc-cessful part in the family, church, school, neighborhood and community; and so that we will be prepared for our adult society and vocation. If we were not educated we would be unable to take an intelligent, successful part in family discussions dis-cussions and decisions, and couldn't successfully perform our daily tasks. enjoy life as much or perform our daily tasks as well. Food, clothing and shelter are all essential es-sential for good health. If we never had food we would starve I and if we didn't have shelter and clothing we would suffer j greatly because of the lack of protection from the' cold of the winter and the heat of the summer. sum-mer. We should not only have enough food, but we should have a well balanced diet. Many diseases are caused by the lack of variety in the diet. The food we eat must be clean, fresh and free of anything harmful. Proper clothing protects us from exposure to cold weather and helps us to build resistance to sickness, and proper housing protects us from the cold of the winter and heat of the summer. We must depend on our family fam-ily income and the services of If we don't have a knowledge of our country's history, government, govern-ment, and social problems, we cannot successfully vote or take a successful part in community discussions and in the improvement improve-ment of the community, because we wouldn't have any sensible ideas to offer. If we get married mar-ried and rear a family without a proper knowledge of home and family life we will make many failures. Both professional and nonprofessional non-professional people need an edu-I edu-I cation, or they will be handi-I handi-I capped in doing their jobs well, because they can't perform their tasks well without a basic knowledge. Education begins in the home. Here we learn the fundamentals fundament-als of life. We learn to walk, talk, get along well with other people, and learn the difference between right and wrong conduct con-duct in the home. We also obtain ob-tain a knowledge of home and family life and the responsibilities responsibil-ities of a family. All this emphasizes em-phasizes that the ' family is the source of life and its experiences. experi-ences. In the . church we learn to sing hymns, say prayers, understand under-stand the background and history his-tory of the church, develop a sense of right and wrong, and create a spirit of fellowship among people everywhere. In the church are many organizations organiza-tions which provide sufficient entertainment for us. In school we acquire the skills and understanding necessary for modern living and our daily work. We also develop a sense of right and wrong and create a spirit of fellowship. Our school offers us worthwhile activities such as dances, parties, assemblies, assem-blies, athletic entertainments, music festivals, speech meets, etc. The school clubs and organizations or-ganizations give us many opportunities oppor-tunities for personal development. develop-ment. Good health is one of the important im-portant needs of everyone. Without good health we couldn't other people. The people whom we have to depend on for good health are the men who work in grocery stores, meat, fruit and vegetable markets; the farmers who grow grain, fruits j and vegetables; millers who j grind the grain into flour and cereals, canners who preserve the fruits and vegetables; dietitians dieti-tians who plan well-balanced diets for us; health inspectors who see that the food producers and storekeepers are obeying the health laws; doctors, nurses, and dentists who provide medical med-ical care and advice; architects who plan our homes; contractors contract-ors whb build them; painters, carpenters, plasterers, and other j building tradesmen who work on them; plumbers who check our homes to guard against leakages and bad fittings; . city inspectors wiio check the electrical elec-trical wiring to see that it is properly installed and isn't a hazard; the city government which sees that the contractor did a .satisfactory job in constructing con-structing the house and that he used approved materials; workers work-ers who produce the raw materials ma-terials for our clothing and the workers who make the raw materials ma-terials into goods. Transportation Transporta-tion also plays a part in suply-ing suply-ing us with good health. It is a means of providing us with the foods we don't produce and a means of getting clothing and materials for building. . As citizens of the United States and members of our community com-munity we have many respon sibilities. We should obey all the laws, be friendly, courteous, and helpful, respecting others' rights, participate in the civic and social affairs of the community, com-munity, and work to make our country and community more pleasant places in which to live We shou'd participate in all school, church, family and neighborhood activities if wc want to play an important part in our community. The community has many re j'.ponsibilities to us, too. It must satisfy the people's needs for protection, health, recreation, recrea-tion, religion, beauty, education, educa-tion, transportation, and communication. com-munication. If it fails to meet the e nseds it will gradually "fade out" of existence. The community must also maintain a government and courts to he'p us live justly, safely, and at peace with one another. The community should organize 4-H Clubs. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts sewing clubs, and other similar clubs and organizations to assist as-sist the people in their effort: to create things. It is advisable for people tc be creative, because they must create something to make prog ress. If people didn't create things we wouldn't have our modern inventions or anything else of value. Another reason we should be creative is so that we will have something that is worthwhile to do in our leisure hours. If we have a chance to create some thing we are much happier and have a greater feeling of satisfaction. |
