Show I PHEASANT HUNT STARTS AT j NOON SATURDAY I White tags permitting nim-j nim-j rods to hunt in the special post-i post-i ed area of South Milford are on 1 sale at Jefferson Mercantile Co. and Shay's, it was announced I by Gael Elmer, president of the South Milford Wildlife Club. ' These tags are necessary and must be attached to the visible license tag of all hunters in the South Milford area," Mr. Elmer said. "However, they do not permit hunting on lands which have "No Trespassing" or "No hunting" signs posted according accord-ing to law. Much of the South Milford area has been posted with 'No Trespassing' signs this year, as many of the farmers .still have seed which has not been harvested, and others have livestock in their fields." Mr. Elmer pointed out that there is still, ample hunting area to accommodate the 600 hunters who will be permitted in the area, and limit kills should be plentiful. He also called attention to specific provisions pro-visions of the game law relating to safety and conservation of property: . "Deputy wardens and collectors collect-ors shall have the right to re-, fuse entry to hunting areas to persons who have liquor or al-1 coholic beverage in their possession, pos-session, who appear to "be under the influence of liquor, or who for any reason are likely to endanger en-danger life or fail to protect property." "It shall be unlawful for any person to damage, dissarange or destroy property of any kind including fences, gates, trees, crops, (etc.); or to shoot at or destroy posted signs or to shoot at or into any orchards, gardens, gar-dens, flower beds, nurseries, buildings of any kind, livestock, domestic fowl, beehives, or to point any gun at or in the direction di-rection of any person or domestic do-mestic animal. It shall also be unlawful for any person to shoot or hunt within 600 feet of any dwelling house, barn, poultry yard, corral, feeding pen, stockyard, or any enclosure where domestic animals are kept," unless permission of the owner has been obtained. Only shotguns may be used in hunting pheasant. No plug is necessary for pheasant hunting. "Carelessness on the part of hunters has been the reason for so much posting of land in South Milford," Mr. Elmer said "In addition to the minor dam-ago dam-ago of pulling staples from the fence posts, shooting near our homes and sometimes spraying the children with birdshot, we have had stock killed and serious seri-ous fires started by careless smokers. We believe that 'common 'com-mon sense' care on the part of the .sportsmen who hunt in South Milford will eventually lead to wide-open fields all over the Flat, with hunters invited to come onto the land, get their birds and enjoy the sport. But it's going to take mutual cooperation coop-eration and mutual consideration considera-tion on the part of the hunter and the landowner." The hunting season starts at noon Saturday, and ends at 5:30 p. m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday the shooting hours are from 7 a. m. to 5:30 p .m. Bag limit is three roosters daily, with six in possession. |
