Show Beaver Briefs Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Bakes were honored Sunday on their 56'h wedding anniversary wi.h an open house reception given at their home by their daughters. daugh-ters. Many friends and relatives rela-tives called during the afternoon after-noon to congratulate this prominent prom-inent couple, who were married June 10, 1895, in Beaver, and who have resided here since. They have been veiy active in church and civic affairs. Mr. J3akes operated a blacksmith shop for many years, and has been active in musical circles. Their children are Vaness Bakes, Mrs. Ed Murdock and Mrs. Mel Skinner of Beaver; J. Dewey Bakes of Pinedale, Wyo., and the late Mary Rogers of Kanosh. They have 9 grandchildren grand-children and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Vickers, local telephone tel-ephone man, was transferred to Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Miles White will live with Mr. Levi and keep house for him. Mrs. Alton G. Black and son Johnny left Sunday for Hungry Horse Dam, Montana, to spend the summer with her husband, who is employed there, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Pryor and family are making a tour of the L D S Temples in Utah, Idaho and Canada. Word has come to Beaver of the recent death of Bob Hatch, who was a druggist in Beaver for many years. Mr. Hatch passed away at his home in San Diego. He is survived by his widow, Zella Tanner Hatch; a son, Robert Hatch, and a daughter, daugh-ter, Emily Hatch, of California. Apostle Delbert L. Stapley visited briefly at the home of D. E. Stapley as he was en route to Salt Lake recently after attending at-tending conference in St. George. Recent weddings in Beaver include that of iMss Ina Marie McQuarrie, daughter of Dr. and Mis. E. S. McQuarrie, and Rex Christensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Christensen of Blackfoot, Idaho. The wedding took place June 6 in the St. George L D S Temple. A wedding wed-ding reception was- held the same evening in the McQuarrie home in Beaver. Announcement is made of the marriage of Miss Stanie Marshall, Mar-shall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newell Marshall of Minersville, and Karl Myers, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Myers of Beaver. They were married in Ely, Nev., last week-end. George Burns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Burns of Beaver, and Miss Florence Cook of Salt Lake City will be married June 19th in the St. George Temple. Mr. and Mrs. Al Barton will leave Thursday morning for a 10-day visit with their children in Tooele. Work began Monday on the tearing away of the old gutter on the east side of Main street, preparatory to construction of the new curb and gutter thru the business section. |
