Show MAX WAINWRIGHT RETIRES FROM PARK SERVICE AT LEHMAN CAVES Max R. Wainwright, superintendent of Lehman Caves Na-, Na-, tional Monument for many years, this week announced his retire- merit from the National Park Service. He started as a Park Ranger on May 24, 1944, at the Lehman Caves monument, and has since served as custodian, the last three years as Superintendent. Superinten-dent. He and Mrs. Wainwright, with their daughter Ann, lived on the Monument winter and summer, and most of the major improvements to the area are the result of Mr. Wainwright's constant efforts to improve the facilities or the area. . For the past two years Ann had been attending high school at Seldona, Ariz., no high school facilities being available near Lehman Caves. j In announceing his retire- , i ment, Mr. Wainwright said "I I certainly will long remember i tray Beaver County friends, and especially the complete success of the "Beaver County Day" at Lehman Caves, which was so I ably put over by the Milford and Beaver Lions Clubs. My work here has been made a good deal more pleasant, know-I know-I ing that I could depend on The Milford News and other press j connections to give the Monu- ' ment and myself a good and fair j presentation. I regret leaving here, but be-l'eve be-l'eve it is best for the future welfare of myself and my family." fam-ily." Mr. Wainwright has completed complet-ed twenty years of service with the National Park organization, beginning in the East and continuing con-tinuing his work at Lake Mead National Recreational Area and Lehman Caves. He will remain at Lehman Caves for the summer. |
