Two of the youths are in the Milford jail, arrested by City Marshals D. A. Smith and Leon Williams and Deputy Sheriff Sher-iff L. G. Clay; the other youth is in jail in Ely, Nev., after being be-ing arrested by Deputy Sheriff Robinson at Baker, Nev. Victims of the holdup were Mr. and Mrs. James S. Ross and another unidentified couple. They were driving toward Delta on U. S.-Highway 6, when they were stopped by the trio and robbed of about $35 in cash and a new Hudson sedan. In the Milford jail" are William Wil-liam McGillwray, 19, and William Wil-liam E. Solbrig, 20. Their companion, com-panion, who continued on toward to-ward Ely when McGillwray and Solbrig turned toward Milford, is Harold DaRoy Franklin, 25, also of Providence. The trio left Providence last Sunday in a stolen automobile, which they wrecked a few miles west of Delta. Walking down the road from the wrecked car they were overtaken by the Ross car, which they halted under un-der the ruse of needing assistance. assist-ance. At gunpoint they forced the occupants from the car, robbed them, and drove off in Mr. Ross' Hudson. Before reaching reach-ing Milford they switched the license plates, putting the Rhode Island plates on the stolen car. ' Milford officers were notified of the robbery about noon. Later, Lat-er, Marshall Williams learned through a phone call to Garri-1 son that the three youths were : at Garrison, and probably head-1 ed for Milford. Deputy Sheriff , Clay and the Milford officers set up a road block just west of Milford, on Utah Highway 21, but their quarry took a side road from Wah Wah Valley into Black Rock. The Union Pacific agent at Black Rock notified the Milford agent that a car left there traveling trav-eling "about 80 miles an hour" and John Grimshaw, on the desk at Milford, relayed the information in-formation to Marshal Smith. A moment after he got the mes-1 sage from Mr. Grimshaw, Marshal Mar-shal Smith was advised by Bob Tomsik that the car was being filled with gas at his service station. Deputy Sheriff Clay and City Marshal Williams also were notified no-tified by Mrs. Berger of the telephone office, but by the time they arrived at the service serv-ice station Marshal Smith had the two men unloaded and was searching them for weapons. The only weapon found was a .32 automatic pistol on the seat of the car. Sheriff Puffer drove over from Beaver, and after investigation investi-gation left the 'prisoners 'in the Milford jail pending arrival of officers from Delta. About $20 of the stolen money was recovered at Milford. Mil-ford. The youth said the remainder re-mainder of the money was given to Franklin as his "cut." |
