Show P.-T, A. to Feature Talk on Methods of Teaching Mathematics All parents who are really interested in-terested in what their children are being taught in our public schools should avail themselves of the . opportunities afforded them by the regular monthly P.-T. A. meetings th:s year. At the next meeting, on Monday, Oct. 23, at 8 p. m., Principal Max Abbott of the Milford High School will discuss the place of arithmetic in our schools, and point out what improvements have been and should be made in the methods of teaching mathematics to our children. Mr. Abbott has done a great deal of research on this subject. sub-ject. In fact, he made it the subject of his thesis for his I Master's Degree. He chose this 1 subject for his thesis because of the poor showing which Utah students made in their college entrance examinations in mathematics. math-ematics. This condition indicated indicat-ed the need of study and research re-search on the problem in order to determine what could be done to remedy the situation. ! Mr. Abbott's work has been judged important enough to have bound, and is to be distributed distrib-uted throughout the state to school supervisors and other educators. Within the next two weeks the P.-T. A. will make their annual house-to-house drive for members. Let's make this our biggest year, with every parent joining this important organization. |
