About 40 Beaver citizens were out to the Republican rally in the court house Monday evening eve-ning to hear Wallace F. Bennett, Ben-nett, Republican candidate for u. S. Senator, and Dr. Preston L. Jones, Republican candidate for U. S. Representative, and Mark Paxton of Kanosh, candidate can-didate for State Senator. Very interesting talks were given by the candidates. Thompson Murdock, Beaver County Republican chairman conducted the meeting, and urged those attending to tell others who were not there of the messages of the candidates. The first meeting of the Beaver Parent-Teacher Association Associ-ation was held Wednesday, at 8 p. m., in the high school auditorium under direction of the new officers: Mrs. Wanda White, president; Mrs. Ellen Joseph, vice president, and Mrs. Vilda Smith, secretary-treasurer. secretary-treasurer. An interesting film was shown and many vital business matters were discussed. It is planned to conduct these meetings meet-ings the last Wednesday of each month. A separate P.-T. A. organization organi-zation has been formed for the Belknap grade school, with Mrs. Wilson Murdock, president; Mrs. Grace Gillies, vice-president, and Mrs. Helen Grimshaw, secretary-treasurer. Separate meetings will be held for each organization. Postmaster Joseph A. Man-zione Man-zione has received word from the post office department that the office at Sulphurdale will be closed Oct. 31, 1950. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Stoney and family of Salt Lake City visited over the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Larson and other relatives. John Gunn, teacher at the Belknap grade school was injured in-jured Saturday while hauling water to his cattle in the field. As he was lifting the water barrels bar-rels he fell and injured his shoulder, and broke several ribs. Mrs. Lois Messinger is substituting sub-stituting for him at the grade school. He expects to return to his duties within a few days. Marvin Spendlove, commander command-er of the Beaver American Legion, Le-gion, announces that the national na-tional commander will be in Cedar City, Oct. 21, in the evening eve-ning to address Legionnaires and members of the Legion Auxiliary from Southern Utah. It will be the first time that the national commander has visited Utah, Mr. Spendlove said, and he urges all members to attend the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Yardley and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Yardley will leave Saturday for an extended ex-tended trip to New York City and other points in the east. Ira Yardley labored in New York and Pennsylvania when he was serving a mission several years ago, and he expects to visit many missionary acquaintances. A full sightseeing trip is planned by the two couples They expect to be gone two or three weeks. A large crowd attended the farewell missionary party here Tuesday evening for Clair Reynolds, Rey-nolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen C. Reynolds, who will depart de-part soon for the Mexican mission. mis-sion. Miss Joan Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milo Baker, will leave Thursday for Logan, to enroll at U S A C. Mrs. LeRoy Harris took her daughter, Miss Nelda Harris, to Logan Tuesday, where she will attend the U S A C this year. She will live with her sister, Mrs. Ellen Pryor, who is now living in Logan. Mr. and Mrs. John Ashworth went to Cedar City Wednesday to visit with their sons, Fay Ashworth, who is attending B A C, and Gerald Ashwofth and family. Mrs. Lawrence C. White is visiting in California with her daughter, Miss Vie White, who 's employed there. |
