Senator and Representative in Congress, respectively, ..viciously ..scored the Democratis deficit spending policy whnn they addressed a sparse Milford Mil-ford auience in St. Bridget's Recreation Hall Monday afternoon. after-noon. In one of the first 1 public statements since his election ecen'iy to the presidency presi-dency of the Utah Municipal League, Dr. Jones, Mayor of Nephi, lashed out at federal usurpation of finances which he said should rightfully remain in Beaver County communities. He cited as an example the 20 tax cut which the federal government gov-ernment takes from revenues earned by community sponsored holidays and other entertainment. entertain-ment. 'That's just a drop in the bottomless bot-tomless bucket of Truman's deficit def-icit spending program," he declared. de-clared. "But think what it j would mean to you if we could keep that money here and spend it on recreation and othei worthy projects for your own home folks." 'Our communities are hard pressed to meet the law enforcement problems caused by the liquor traffic," Dr. Jones said, "and yet the federal government gov-ernment drains off a fabulous tax on every bottle of liquor sold, returning nothing to the community." By the same token, the candidate can-didate said, open and hidden taxes on new automobiles bring the federal government over $500 per car. "So what happens hap-pens to those taxes levied against folks in your town and mine when they buy a new car?"
