Show Democrats Begin County Drive With Milford Rally SENATOR THOMAS ' CITES GAINS," DEFINES V. CRD "THOMASISM" Senator Elbert D. Thomas, senior senator from Utah seek-ng seek-ng reelection on the Demo-'-ra ic ticket, said "there are no lone wolfs in politics the party has to stick together," when he addressed a Milford audience Thursday evening. The senator urgad unity in county as well as national politics, stressing his point that "noth'ng is accom-y-i ish"; except through party solidarity." Heading a group of Democrats Demo-crats from the county seat, which also included Mr. C. E. Freer of Millard County, candidate can-didate for the Utah State Senate, Sen-ate, the senator and his party were guests of local Democrat at a dinner in the Royal Club Cafe preceding the rally, which was held in the recreation hall of the Milford L D S Church. Mrs. Eva Stonehocker presided presid-ed at the meeting and introduced intro-duced the county candidates, including in-cluding Louis Lessing, candidate candi-date for county recorder; Frank Sm-'th, candidate for Beaver County Commissioner; John P. Barton, candidate for state representative; rep-resentative; C. Victor Smith, candidate for county clerk; Leon Williams, candidate for county sheriff; Mr. Freer, and Mrs. Romney of St. George, national na-tional committeewoman. Senator Thomas, the only cand'date who addressed the group, tossed aside his prepared speech and spoke "off the cuf," citing his record in congress and defining the "Republican-coined "Republican-coined word 'Thomasism'." He said Thomasism included creation crea-tion of the National Deposit Insurance In-surance Fund, protecting the funds of small depositors and restoring confidence in the nation's banks; raising of farm income from 26 million to over 160 million dollars; increasing bank deposits; creation and extension ex-tension of the social security act; the fair labor standards act; farm legislation, and "the biggest and best Thomasism, 1 creation of the United Nations, unification of the armed services, serv-ices, and appointment of General Gen-eral Marshall as head of the unified armed services." Senator Thomas scored the groups opposing national health programs, and "folks who call ;ood things by bad names." He denied that socialized medicine was a Democratic aim, declaring declar-ing socialized medicine was unconstitutional. un-constitutional. Senator Thomas concluded his address with an invitation to voters to "check the national budget of the NAM to see what kind of a senator you'd have if the Republican candidate candi-date is elected." |
