Show DISTRICT LEGION MEET IS VERY WELLATTENDED Ross Pino, commander of Post No. 30, Bingham Canyon, presid-ied presid-ied over the banquet served to 'over 200 American Legion and j Auxiliary delegates and friends I attending the annual convention ! of District 8 which was held Saturday, Sat-urday, April 16 at the Civic Center Cen-ter in Bingham. Address of welcome wel-come was given by Mayor Joe Dispenza, the Star Spangled -Banner was rendered by Al Thomas of Tooele with Mrs. C. A. Morley accompanist. Miss Ros-lyn Ros-lyn Hansen of Copperton furnished furnish-ed piano music during the banquet ban-quet and sang two solos accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Dean Malan and Miss Frances Flowers of Salt Lake City furnished three accordion accor-dion numbers. Russell Shatter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shatter, Shat-ter, played tap3 following the posting of the colors by two mem bers of Post No. 71 of Holladay. General chairman of the convention, con-vention, O. R. Warner, arranged for the group to witness a blast at the mine and other features of entertainment, with registrations registra-tions from 1 p.m. to the dinner hour. Mrs. Sam Feraco and Mrs. J. Dewey Knudsen of the Auxiliary Aux-iliary were in charge of registrations registra-tions and Mrs. Helen Sullenger served the banquet which was held in ballroom of the Civic Center. The Legion's business meeting was held in the Civic Center and the auxiliary meeting in the audi torium of Bingham Central school. District Commander Merie Garner, Salt Lake, conducted the legion meeting with the following follow-ing district officers in attendance: Joe Zanoui first vice commander command-er and William Thomas second vice commander. Among awards presented, a bronze bell was a-warded a-warded the Bingham Legion for I the highest percentage of membership mem-bership renewals this past year. Depaftment (state) officers present were . Commander Clark Cheney, Kaysville; William Con-ely, Con-ely, first vice commander; Adjutant Adju-tant J. Lloyd Wignall and Art Horsley, service officer, all of Salt Lake City. Beverly Champlin of West Jordan, president of District 8, presided at the auxiliary meeting meet-ing assisted by her secretary, Winona Williams of Salt Lake City and the following presidents of their units gave reports on the years progress: Irene Page, Tooele Too-ele No. 17; Ruby Knudsen, Bingham Bing-ham No. 30; Louise Anderson, Jordan No. 35; Lillian Haws, Magna No. 35; Alberta Sorensen, Wendover No. 40; Alveratta Southern, Murray No, 60; Edith Van Valkenburg, Union No. 63; Helen Ferguson, Holladay No. 71; Laura Terry, Draper No. 85; Mary Zanoui, Salt Lake City No. 112; Leona Beckstead, West Jordan Jor-dan No. 119, and Agnes Yeomans, Dugway No. 131. Department guests were Nettie P. Hayes, Richmond, president; Ruby Farnsworth, Salt Lake City, national committeewoman; Juan-ita Juan-ita Buckley, Midvale, first vice president; Erma Sutter, Roosevelt, Roose-velt, second vice president; Helen Howard, Riverton, girls state chairman, Roetta Kilfoyle, Kaysville, Kays-ville, rehabilitation chairman; Jean Steadman, West Jordan, VAVS representative at the 12th Ave. hospital, Ruby Knudsen is the VAVS representative at the Ft. Douglas hospital. Elected to head the District for next year for the Legion were: Lyle Gunderson, Sandy, commander; com-mander; Wiiliam Thompson, West Jordan, first vice commander, and Garth Sawyer, Tooele, second sec-ond vice commander. Auxiliary leaders elected were: Bertha Setterberg, president; Helen Ferguson, Fer-guson, Holladay, first vice president; presi-dent; Clella Ballard, Draper, second sec-ond vice president; Louise Anderson, And-erson, Midvale, treasurer, and Alvaretta Southern, Murray, historian. his-torian. A dance was held following the banquet and business sessions. |
