Show B.D.A.A FLASHES by Jim Abplanalp FLASH UTES GET LOCAL STAR I The many basketball fans thru-out thru-out this region will be pleased to learn that Bingham's great hoop star, Jack Mannion, will still continue his activities in the Beehive Bee-hive state. Jack has decided to cast his lot with the University of Utah, and will be a running mate of Jordan's great star, Pearl Pollard. Since the regular prep hoop race ended, Jack has played play-ed several games with the Inland Gas squad, which recently won the popular Pierre Invitational tourney. This team is made up from most of the Ute championship champion-ship five, and big Jack has already al-ready gained a lot of valuable experience playing with them. We are indeed pleased to learn that our local favorite will play in Utah, and our best wishes go to him in his future achievements. achieve-ments. NORTHWEST LOOP TO MEET The Northwest baseball league officials are holding a meeting tonight, to approve team rosters, the new schedule, and other playing play-ing factors. President Frank Zaccaria has called the meeting for 7:30 p.m. at the Utah Copper Club in Magna. President Zaccaria, Zac-caria, Manager Herb Babcock and this writer will attend, representing rep-resenting the BDAA nine. The league plans on opening play May 22, with four teams. The local nine, managed by Babcock to the title last season, -will be rarin' to go when the new schedule sched-ule rolls around. The other three clubs, Magna, Midvale and Doc Johnson's of Sandy will very likely field strong teams, and interest should be high. Doc Johnson's was the power in the Salt Lake Amateur Federation Fed-eration the past year, and will be hard to beat. Magna and Midvale Mid-vale always come up with excellent excel-lent teams, and the four way race should be nip and tuck throughout the season. Manager Babcock has already lined up several of last year's squad, and they should give another an-other good account of themselves. We will let you know when the initial work-outs will begin. o |
