Show Utah accident price tag totals millions The total direct cost of traffic traf-fic accidents to Utah motorists motor-ists amounted to $49,000,000 in 1967, according to the Research Division, Utah State Department Depart-ment of Highways. This is based bas-ed upon the following: $905,000 per 100 million vehicle miles of travel, $1270 per mile of road, $78.10 per registered vehicle, $76.70 for every licensed driver, dri-ver, $1580 per accident, $47.10 per capita; this is approximately approximat-ely one cent per mile of travel or 10 cents per gallon of gasoline gaso-line consumed. In 1967, approximately 4 out of 6 accidents on Utah's highways resulted in property damage only. One out of three accidents resulted in bodily injury, in-jury, and only one out of every 130 accidents resulted in fatal injury. For every 100 million vehicle miles of travel there was 4.3 fatal accidents, 165 non-fatal injury accidents, and 403 property-damage only ac-: ac-: cidents. There was a fatal accident for every 4,506 persons, a non-' non-' fatal injury accidents for every 117 persons, and a property damage only accident for every 48 persons. There was a fatal i accident for every 2,717 pas-: pas-: senger cars. There were 71 i non-fatal injury accidents and 29 property damage only acci- dents. |
