Show Open letter Writer conveys opinion on ilquor-by-drink Editor's note: Opinions expressed ex-pressed in this column are those of the writer. Letters are welcomed wel-comed and should be signed. They should not be of a slan-erous slan-erous nature; should be concise. This liquor-by-the-drink issue is causing us all to ponder in our minds what the ultimate consequence shall be. As to my position on this matter, there would just naturally nat-urally be no liquor on the face of the earth to worry about.. I was reading through a book the other day and I came across these writings: "To put alcohol in the human brain is like putting put-ting sand in the bearings of an engine" (Thomas Edison). The ravages of drink are greater than those of war, pestilence pes-tilence and famine combined. ( Gladstone) "Drink has drained more blood, hung more crepe, sold more homes, plunged more people peo-ple into bankruptcy, armed more villians, slain more children, chil-dren, snaped more wedding ' rings, defiled more innocent, blinded more eyes, twisted more limbs, dethroned more reason, wrecked more manhood, dishonored dishon-ored more womanhood, broken more hearts, blasted more lives, driven more to suicide, and dug more graves than any other poison scourge that ever swept its death dealing wave across the world." Evangeline Booth. I will have to say amen to this; there can be no compromise compro-mise for me. Sincerely, R. Dillon Frazier |
