Show Open letter I " Reader writes on current school problems Editor's note: The Springville Herald welcomes wel-comes letters to the editor 'on controversial subjects knowing that readers enjoy reading the opinions of others. The opinions oxpressed however, may or may not coincide with those of this newspaper. All letters must be signed by the writer and should not be of a slanderous nature. If the writer so desires, his name may be withheld from publication. The pattern followed by the Nebo School District Board of Education since the appointment appoint-ment of Russell N. Stansfield as their professional advisor as superintendent, has been one that does not reflect sound educational ed-ucational administration pro-ceedures. pro-ceedures. It is regretable that a board of education would turn their backs to the will of the people as has been the case in regards to a number of issues, that have arrisen during Mr. San-field's San-field's tenure of office as superintendent. su-perintendent. Parents must recognize that it is their children's education that is suffering from the teachers tea-chers of Nebo School District not having a feeling of employment employ-ment security. One only has to ask any teacher of the district whom they know well enough to do so, how they feel, to qualify the insecurity of anyone any-one of the personnel of the district. Why is it that the Springville Spring-ville High School site ' was selected se-lected without community consideration? con-sideration? Why was a site selected for the new high school in a swamp area where access is so poor, and the drainage problem has added considerable to the cost of the new structure? The drainage problem will always be present. pres-ent. How much more equipment equip-ment could we have put in the school for the students use instead in-stead of the drainage system? Is this prudence? Why is it that Nebo School District with half the student population of a neighboring district of the county employs twice as many supervisors? Does this represent prudence? The daughter of the board member from Springville is employed as a teacher in Nebo District and in the Head Start program this summer. Does this comply with state laws concerning employment of relatives ? It would seem most peculiar that teachers under the present administration have been discharged dis-charged for lack of proficiency have gone to neighboring districts dis-tricts and are doing well. In a weekly column in a local lo-cal newspaper, a local writer referring to the present superintendent, super-intendent, stated, "little people can not fill big shoes." How well time has proved this statement state-ment to be correct. It is to be hoped that the apathy of the public has passed pass-ed and that certain board members will not be permitted to perpetuate themselves in office, of-fice, thus making it impossible for a much needed "house cleaning on a district level."
