Springville men win annual boat race on Green River Two Springville men, Kendall Ken-dall Oldroyd and Dr. Glade Creer, won first place "in pleasure plea-sure boats, class two, in the big annual Canyon Country River Marathon held last Saturday Sat-urday on the Green River and Colorado. They received $100 prize money plus a large, handsome hand-some trophy for their victory. The Canyon Country River Marathon begins at Green River Riv-er and continues down to the Colorado and ends at Moab for a total of 196' miles. This year's accomplishment by the two Springville men is particularly partic-ularly significant in that the river was extremely low and hazardous. Of 28 boats entered, only 15 made it to Moab on their own power to complete the race. Besides winning first in their class, Ken and Dr. Creer were the fifth ones in on the overall over-all race. It was the third time the boat had won the event and last year Kendall placed third in the annual classic. A Johnson 75 H.P. motor on the 14-foot run-about brought in the prize money. The race has been run on the rivers for the past six years and is a popular event in Southeastern Utah. Boaters from Utah, New Mexico, Mex-ico, Calif., and Texas compete-ed. |
