Show Church man to attend meet Cecil J. Zimmerman, an elder el-der of the Springville Community Com-munity Presbyterian Church, left Wednesday for Oklahoma City, where he will serve as a commissioner to the 176th General Assembly of the United Unit-ed Presbyterian Church, USA. Mr. Zimmerman will represent repre-sent the Utah Presbytery as lay commissioner at the General Gen-eral Assembly, which is the highest legislative and judicial body of the United Presbyterian Presbyter-ian Church. The Rev. John Browne of the Westvale Presbyterian Pres-byterian Church in Salt Lake City will attend as ministerial delegate from the Utah Presbytery. Pres-bytery. Sessions of the week-long conference will be held in the Oklahoma City Municipal Auditorium. Au-ditorium. A total of 840 lay and ministerial commissioners from every state in the union will be in attendance, making up the voting body of the church. All phases of church operation, policy, and government govern-ment will be discussed and voted vot-ed upon by the General Assembly. As-sembly. Key speakers at the assembly assem-bly will include John Lewis, president of the Student Nonviolent Non-violent Coordinating Committee Commit-tee speaking on "Freedom Now;" William B. Arthur, the managing editor of Look Magazine, Mag-azine, speaking on "The Trouble With Being a Cristian;" and Roy Wilkins, executive secretary secre-tary of the National Association Associa-tion for the Advancement of Colored People. Prominent theologians the-ologians and church leaders will also be heard during the essembly. |
