Show Fire department busy CEDAR CITY - The Cedar City Fire Department was busy last week fighting a number of small blazes. On Nov.21 the department depart-ment responded to a fire that had broken out in a garbage can? Apparently ashes had been thrown away while still hot, igniting a small blaze. "We want to remind everyone to cool ashes about 48 hours before throwing them away," Fire Chief David Bentely said. On Nov. 28 the fire department responded to a fire at the residence of Dr. C. J. Thinnes. The fire was caused by a creosote build-up in the chimney and an overheated wood stove. Bentley complimented Thinnes' neighbors who battled the small blaze with garden hoses until his crew arrived. Approximately Ap-proximately $10,000 in damage was caused to the home. On Nov. 29 members of the fire department were summoned to the Betty Snell home in Enoch. Bentley stated that around $50 in damage was caused by the fire that started from an exceptionally hot fire and an improperly installed wood-burning stove. |
