Show Roundup completed CEDAR CITY - The Bureau of Land Management Beaver River Resource Area in Cedar City has just completed its schedule of wild horse roundups, according to Area Manager Arlen Jensen. In just three days, 43 horses were captured from the southern portions por-tions of Pine Valley and Hamblin Valley. Jensen said the roundups are part of a standing plan ; aimed at keeping wild horse numbers in line with the availability of forage and other habitat limitations. In addition, removal also limits conflicts with other resources such as wildlife and watershed. The roundup process was completed by means -of setting up corrals around known watering holes and trapping the horses within the corrals when the horses came in for water. This method is highly cost-effective and can be very successful when properly conducted, con-ducted, according to Jensen. The captured horses will now be transported to Delta where they will be made available to the public through BLM's adopt-a-horse program. Before the horses are adopted they will be carefully checked by a veterinarian. |
