Show Patriots, heroes not of past; renewal of faith encouraged As Independence Day 1982 approaches, we at the Record believe that we need to renew our faith in America and in its dream. Patriots and heroes aren't a thing of the past. We need and have modern heroes and patriots working to solve the problems and challenges facing our great nation. George Burns told John Denver in "Oh God" that we have all we need to make it work. That's true, but we must use the resources which are at our , disposal and not let it be wasted along with some of our other valuable resources. With a positive attitude and outlook on the future, we can meet the challenges at hand. But, it's going to take work hard, dedicated work. To give this country some of the things that make it great, men, women and children gave there lives to make it work. Maybe giving our lives will not be required. Maybe just living our lives, raising our children, is what we need to do. What will be required will be different for everyone, but to overcome as we have in the past is what we must give. It requires our commitment to the American dream. The theme of the city's miniature parade to be conducted on July 5 this year is "Wish I Could." A wish is the start of a happening if it's carried out., Over 200 years ago a small group of people wished they could have a free land and did, slaves wished they could have freedom, and they now do. . Let's wish we can and then go out and do what is required. Patriots and heroes awake and face our challenges. |
