Show Because of Elizabeth By Janet Weaver "A group of amateurs who performed admirably" might be the best way of describing the recent production of '"Because of Elizabeth", which was produced and directed by Dorothy Bennee, under the auspices of the three Cedar area Stake Relief Societies. Mrs. Bennee did a tremendously fine job of taking a quality production and a large cast (including many children) and molding them together into a memorable production which flowed smoothly and said much. The lighting was simple and effective; and good use through blocking and action was made of the almost bare stage. Jolynn Spencer and the high school staff are to be complimented on the lighting. The music, under the direction of Marie Spencer was delightful, yet unobtrusive and the choreography by Helen Linford was well-done. The leads played by Ann Frehner and James Dunaway were well carried, and Mrs. Frehner particularly par-ticularly added a tough of professional expertise with her fine musical talent and acting ability. Her one weak moment came when the real baby they were using (which was a nice touch) started to cry right after being put down. It would have, been perfectly natural (and in keeping with the role) if v Elizabeth had picked up the baby and finished the scene with it in her arms. ' The production made effective use of projected ' pictures and all in all it was something to be proud of. It played to a near capacity audience both nights. |
