Out of the nearly 5 million acres intensively inventoried for further wilderness review during the past year, 3.2 million acres have been determined de-termined not to qualify and will be dropped from further fur-ther consideration. Approximately Ap-proximately 1.9 million acres ac-res will be designated wilderness wil-derness study areas. Due to public participation participa-tion and additional field work a number of the WSA pro posals of April 2 were decreased de-creased or increased in size, portions of two units were added as WSA's and one unit was deleted. There were no changes in Beaver County from BLM's Wilderness proposal released last May. There are two Wilderness areas in Beaver County. 205, the north Wah Wah unit in Wah Wah Valley, just north of U-21 and the White Rocks area 216 on the Nevada border. bor-der. The decisions de-cisions will not become effective ef-fective until December 15 1980. The total acreage that has been identified as WSA's out of the more than 22 million acres of public land administered admin-istered by BLM in Utah, is approximately two and one half million acres. Although this amount of acreage meets the criteria ' for identification as WSA, it does not mean that they will become wilderness. Only On-ly Congress can designate an area as wilderness. The public will be asked to continue to participate. As recommendations are developed, de-veloped, environmental impact im-pact statements will be prepared pre-pared concerning alternatives. alterna-tives.
