Then on Saturday, they made a run on the Piute Pi-ute Thunderbirds in the final minutes and closed to within two points at the buzzer, 68-70. It was heartbreaking to loyal fans who really wanted them to chalk up a win as the season winds down. They will play at Gunnison this Thursday. Milford scored first in the third period, but had a lapse in the last few minutes and the Wolves took control, closing out the period with a 35-29 lead. Piute thinking think-ing they had the Tigers on the ropes, ran in some subs, but as the Tigers begin their fourth quarter charge, they brought back the first line. But the momentum was lost and the Tigers continued to creep up pulling to within two at the buzzer. Jeff Atkin led all scorers with 31, Malchus had 18 and T. Hardy 10 for the Tigers Ti-gers in double figures. For the Thunderbirds, Sylvester had 17, Dalton 16 and Mil-lett Mil-lett 12. With only three games left the Tigers will have to catch a cripple to get in the win column. |
