Show lips SesG li to Ihmh tote', figures, as the two teams battled for supremacy of Division I. The Cowboys are now 9-1, and the Tigers 8-2, in division play, with only two games left before the Round Robin. Jeff Atkin had eight points and 16 rebounds re-bounds for the Tigers. Jones hit a fabulous 71 percent from the field, 12 of 17, and the same percentage from the foul line, hitting five of seven for the Tigers' total output from the line. The Tigers, as a team, hit only 48 percent from the field, and 56 percent from the line. But Kanab, who shot seven more times from the field, and nine more from the line, was even colder, as they had 34 and 47 percent respectively. respect-ively. The Tigers had 51 rebounds to 39 for Kanab. The Cowboys, though playing play-ing an aggressive defense, committed less fouls, but lost both Kim and Gary Glov er via the foul route in the final seconds. With the exception of Jones and Johnson, both teams were obviously tight for the big game. The officiating was good, a necessity in the big ones. Neither team will be able to relax much this week, as Milford entertains cross -county rival, Beaver, tonight, Thursday, and Kanab has to travel to Gunnison to face the up and coming Bulldogs. Beaver, who-lost a heart-breaker heart-breaker to NorthSevier, last week, 40-38, always mana-: -ges to play their best against the Tigers, and gave them all they wanted on January 6th. And the Bulldogs have been coming on strong since upsetting up-setting the Tigers for their first league loss on January 20th. They are coming off an 80-55 victory at Enterprise Enter-prise last week. Rated as the game of the week and a barn burner, the Tiger - Cowboy cage contest between the two Division I Region Eight powers, proved just that, as it went right down to the wire before the winner was decided. With just 18 seconds on the clock, Mark Whitney put the Tigers ahead, 51-49. The Cowboys moved on the attack, at-tack, and fed Ben Johnson, who fired from about five feet out and seared the net, to tie It at 51-51. Johnson also drew a foul and went to the line for a three pointer. Coach Hillock Hil-lock called two time outs trying to rattle the big 6'7" redhead, but Johnson stepped to the line with eight seconds on the clock and made his 25th point, and give the Cowboys Cow-boys a one point edge. Milford raced the clock down court, with Kim Williams Wil-liams driving for a lay-up at the buzzer, but the shot missed, and the Cowboys had taken the Divison I lead. It was a tough defensive battle from the beginning, with only Johnson andTiger, Ken Jones able to find the hoop with any consistency. Jones had the game high of 29 points, hittingfrom inside and outside, and grabbed off seventeen rebounds to lead that category, as he almost single-handedly carried the Tiger offense. Scoring started slowly, in what turned out to be the lowest low-est scoring game of the season for both teams. The Tigers were out in front, 6 -2, and went on to take a 14-8 first quarter lead, but the Cowboys broke it open late in the second period, and went ahead, 22-20, with 2:42. Rolling with that momentum, they exploded for a 29-24 half-time lead, and looked as if they were going to run away. But the intermission cooled cool-ed them off and neither team scored for a minute and a half in the third period. Then Jones connected for eight straight points to put the Tigers in the lead. A lead that swapped back and forth until the Tigers wound up with a three point edge, 38-35, at the three-quarter mark. It was the biggest lead either team was to have the rest of the game, as first one, and then the other, would go ahead. Cowboy Wade Coleman, with 10 points was the only other player to reach double i ..".i.i.xy ' -'vX,v ''vj.- ; :VV : vl. . I I :- i i f i H ) X K- J'J n X 4 J . I x v.i . r .'
