Beaver has lost four games, with a total of 13 points separating those games. The Beavers forced the Wolves into a slowdown slow-down style contest, and it worked beautifully, if only the Beaver offense could have capitalized on a few opportunities. Jones had 29 points and 17 rebounds at Kanab last week, shooting a fantastic 71 percent both from the field and from the foul line. The Cowboys won, 52-51, in the Division I thriller for first place. a former championship team to 26 points, It speaks well of the defense. Big Todd Kennedy mustered only 5 points and Troy Hallows, every team's big worry at 5' 6", salvaged 13 points for high honors, with Beaver's Shane Blackner, at 13. A cold first quarter set the Beavers back even though they led at halftime, 15-13, and, 29-28, after the third period. Blackner and Hallows fought to the wire, scoring from outside and from the charity stripe. The Beavers had several chances to win it during the final seconds, but the nets remained calm as the ball bounced everywhere but through. A passed lay-up would have given Beaver a one point edge, with 20 seconds remaining, but the ball fell into the Wolves hands. Hallows was fouled and went to the line with a one point lead, 39-38. His shot was too hard, and Beaver had the ball with 10 seconds left. A tough North Sevier defense forced a bad pass, and again Hallows Hal-lows was fouled. He converted con-verted one of two with 5 seconds on the clock. Beaver Bea-ver couldn't penetrate deep enough before the time expired, ex-pired, and it was over. Now comes the chess game one big "if" prevails for the next two weeks. Beaver needs a win to edge out Enterprise for the Round Robin bracketing. Milford needs to grab both encounters remaining with Beaver and North Sevier, but the paradox in the entire setup is someone is going to stay home even though they are a better team than some sneaking in the backdoor. This writer predicts if both county schools make the upper bracket, they will be awarded a trip to Provo. The lower bracket is going to be a fight to the wire for a state berth. |
