Show i Mb President Carter needs to take Dale Carnegie's course on "How to Win Friends and Influence People." We backed all the wrong people in Iran, thumbed our nose at Mexico, and curled our pinkie at China, while cutting off our nose to spite our face with Taiwan. Now Jimmy is flashinghis pearly whites at Khomeini, and is touring Mexico to try to make amends, while Congress Cong-ress adds confusion to the China situation. - 0 - The result will be, of course, that ye' ol' taxpayer tax-payer will take another beating beat-ing as the price of foreign oil goes ever higher or gets cut off all together. No one knows when Iranian oil production will get back to normal or if Khomeini will sell it to us when they do. Mexico is sending millions mil-lions of dollars of natural gas up In smoke daily, where the pipeline, originaly intended in-tended for the U.S. stops short of the border. 0 - Had the administration and Congress seen fit to deregulate de-regulate the price of crude oil and natural gas after the 1973 OPEC boycott, boy-cott, we'd have oil and gas running out our ears. If the bureaucrats would cut the ridiculous restrictions restrict-ions on coal leasing, and let private industry mine the fantastic coal deposits of the west, we could over-'come over-'come present shortages in a few short years. Mexican gas and oil, even at OPEC prices is cheaper than transporting across the ocean. - 0 - But even more, deregulation de-regulation would provide the incentive for tapping the vast fossil fuel resources, while American technology comes up with an alternative that would solve our energy problems for years to come. Congress and the administration, adminis-tration, both the present and past, have lost faith with the American free enterprise system. But they've yet to prove they can do anything better than private industry. - 0 - Meanwhile, back at the ranch,, private industry is stymied by bureaucratic red tape as foreign Interests reach deeper and deeper into the taxpayers pocket and inflation in-flation runs rampant. Nobody trusts anybody! Big government, big industry and big labor are all suspect. At' the bottom line of this vicious cycle is the little guy you and me who finally pays the price that Is, we will as Ion gas its possible. -0 - |
