Show UNION PACIFIC RELEASES : RECORD FIGURES Union Pacific Railroad today to-day released figures on progress pro-gress in handling this year's record breaking grain harvest. har-vest. The railroad said in 1977 it hauled a combined total of 9.05 million tons of grain, but that in 1978 the figure is expected to reach 11.07 million tons. Singling out one commodity, com-modity, UP said corn traffic traf-fic is up 62 percent this year. The increase is frorn 2.7 million tons last year to a projected 4.24 million tons in 1978. Union Pacific's fleet of covered hoppers for the grain trade amounts to about 7,000 cars and an investment invest-ment of approximately $210, 000,000. The Railroad said record harvests, almost perfect weather for field work for farmers and international demand for VS. grain are all good news for the farmer. |
