Show Tips step lo4gfe start Esa at ta&esi The Tigers slipped by2-A Millard 62-53 with a fourth quarter spurt Friday, and then led Delta all the way Saturday in a 82-66 triumph that surely puts the Tigers as the team to beat in Region Eight this year. But Gunnison gave the Wolves a run for their money at Salina, as the Wolves barely pulled out a 66-64 win, and Beaver and Kanab hauled home easy wins over Parowan and Enterprise as Division I action in the tough Region Eight got underway. The Tigers stayed close to the highly talented, but not quite clear of football, Eagles, for three quarters, and when the breaks came in the fourth period, capitalized capital-ized for a 62-53 win over Keith Gillins' Fillmore crew. It was a game of who made the most mistakes, Milford, Millard, or the referees. A couple of double fouls and a technical in the fourth period gave the Tigers the lead in the fourth period and then they could taste victory and would not be denied. The talented Eagles, who just won the state 2 -A football foot-ball championship, and hope to repeat this year as 2 -A basketball champs, were in early foul trouble, and it was finally the whistle that did them in. The Tigers led 14-13 in the first quarter, but were down 28-29 at the half, and by two, 43-45 at the three quarter quart-er mark. But the difference in the score was at the foul line as the Tigers sank 16 of 28 free throws to 7 of 12 for the Eagles in the 62-53 62-53 score. The Eagles com -mitted 26 fouls to 13 for the Tigers, while Milford grabbed 44 rebounds to 26 for Millard. Ken Jones and Mark Whitney Whit-ney led the Tiger attack with 22 and 21 points respectively. respect-ively. Both hit eight of 15 from the field and had 12 rebounds each. Jones had 6 of 10 from the foul line while Whitney hit five of eight, and had five assists. Kim Williams, with eight points and seven assists, led that category. J. Robinson led the Eagles with 18 points, B.Monson had 12 and J. Hare, eight. But Saturday the Tigers were rolling as they upset Mitch Myers' Delta Rabbits 82-66, leading all the way, 24-16 at the quarter, 43-39 halfway, and 66-51 at the threequarter mark. It was a superb passing performance that gave fans insight into the kind of ball club the Tigers can be when Jones led the scoring with 36 on 15 of 26 field goals, and six of eight free throws. Whitney was close behind with 24 points, hitting 11 of 14 from the field and 2 of 2 from the line. Both had a dozen rebounds. Jeff Atkin At-kin had five points, seven rebounds and a like number of assists. Steve Wilson came off the bench to grab five points, while Denny Myers had seven, with six rebounds and four assists. Kim Williams had four points, six rebounds and led. in assists with 10.
