The month of August is going to be a busy, happy one tor the Smiths because the 12th of August Alan will enter the mission home and on the 19th of August their son, Jeff, will be married. Alma and Mickey Lowe are happy to have their son and wife, Dennis and Binnie Lowe and f am ily from F lori - days visit. Their daughter, Kari, drove to Provo last Monday to look for an apartment apart-ment as she plans to attend the "Y" in the fall. Cathllne Henrie daughter of Terry and Leola Henrie is enjoying a short vacation in Las Vegas with her grandparents, grand-parents, Bill and Mary Worthen, and other family members prior to her leaving leav-ing onamission inAustralia. I enjoyed visiting on the phone this week with my neighbor, Ila Messinger, and have her tell me about her trip to Europe. I wish I could write it all up because It was so interesting, but I'll only be able to tell the highlights. All of her sisters sis-ters planned to go on the trip, but due to last minute prob- lems, two of them were unable un-able to go. She traveled with her sister and husband, Edward and Nella Copelin. They went on a Continental Tour and there were 24 people peo-ple in their group. Mr. Copelin Is a research chem- da visit with them this week. Also visiting the Lowe's is a daughter, Lori, and her hus -band, Jeff Blanc, from Boise, Idaho. Dennis and Bonnie and Lori and Jeff are also spending some time with other members of the family, Rusty and Bonnie George and Lynn and Jeri Anderson. My mom, Alberta Limb, has had a bit of company this past week. Her nephew, Dick Blake and wife, Margaret, Mar-garet, and four children came from Ely, Nevada last Thursday evenlngto visit and participate In the Golf Tournament Tour-nament held last weekend. Her sister and husband, Ilene and LaVar Blake, came from St. George to watch the tournament tour-nament and to give Dick their support. Another Blake son, Karl, and family stopped In for a short visit. Then Saturday, Sat-urday, Mom's brother and wife, Lynn andMarion Lowe, stopped to stay with her and visit other family members for a couple of days. The Lowe's were enroute to their home In Albequerque, New i Mexico after vacationing for i a month In Michigan and other oth-er parts of the eastern US . Leo and Naomi White have enjoyed having her father, Ernest Johnson, from Stockton, Stock-ton, Utah spend the last week with them. Their son, Tracy, accompanied his grandfather back to Stockton for a few i iije ii mi ' ni m m 1st and went to attend a symposium sym-posium in England. They left Los Angeles on June 28 and flew to London. While there, they visitedWestmin-ster visitedWestmin-ster Abbey, saw the changing chang-ing of the guards and other sights, then crossed the English Eng-lish Channel by steamer and went to Paris, France. The highlight in Paris was spending spend-ing an afternoon at the Louve. They then went to Switzerland and visited the town where Ila's grandfather was born. She said Switzerland Switz-erland was a very beautiful country. They then went in to Italy and spent three days in Rome. They were at the Vatican Square on a Sunday morning when the Pope came out to bless the 75,000 people gathered there. They saw St. Peter's Cathedral and went to Florence Flor-ence and Venice. Ila said Venice is built on 114 islands is-lands and is slowly sinking because of the huge buildings build-ings that are constructed (mainly) of marble. They went into Austria over Brenner Bren-ner Pass and stayed in In-nesbrook In-nesbrook where it snowed while they were there. They visited the tavern in Heidleburg, Germany where the opera 'Student Prince' had its beginnings. They went down the Rhine River and saw many castles. Ila said they saw lots of churches and castles and saw Roman ruins scattered all over Europe. From Germany they went to Amsterdam, Holland. (An interesting note was that while in Amsterdam, they visited a large museum there and Ila was looking at an amusing painting and started to laugh as did another lady close by. She looded up and it was her cousin from Meadow, Mea-dow, Utah. What a coincidence! coinci-dence! Her cousin had been to Germany to see a son who was stationed there in the Army.) The group returned to Los Angeles via Chicago where they went through customs. Ila was happy to have her husband, Arlo, daughter, Elizabeth, and son, Jerry, meet her at the airport. They all returned to Beaver where Arlo and Ila and son, Mark, have enjoyed having the whole family together for the first time in six or seven sev-en years. Elizabeth and Michael Mi-chael Grim shaw and three daughters flew from Wood-ridge, Wood-ridge, Virginia and Jerry and Judy Messinger are from Celitoes, California. Other family members who joined in the reunion were Steven from Layton and Ann from Logan. They all enjoyed the beautiful Beaver Mountains and spent some time in the Messinger cabin at Merchant Valley. I know there's a lot more comings and going in Beaver than this but if I called everyone ev-eryone it would be a full-time full-time job why don't you give me a call I'd ap-. ap-. predate it. |
