Show Gouboys rope OeouGr 02-02 By Mel Osborn Beaver High Schoolman- aged to stay clear of the corral for the first eight minutes while visiting the Cowboys last Friday night, trailing by two, 18-16, after the. first period. However, the ropes began to tighten as Kanab augmented their lead, 32-26, at intermission. Then suddenly after the fifteen fif-teen minute break the Cowboys Cow-boys put the squeeze on cinching up the reins and held Beavers offense to a meager six points while canning can-ning thirty-two of their own. Kanab led, 52 -32, after three periods and Coach Hal Ham -blin utilized his bench power giving all thirteen members of his varsity squad action and experience on the home . hardwood. The Beavers obviously realizing their plight went to work, erasing ten of the twenty twen-ty point deficit, scoring twenty points in the fourth quarter. Dan Robinson and Mike Smith grabbed nine points followed by eight from Dave Crook. K. Glover of Kanab led all scorers with 31. The Beaver are 3 -5 for the season, but the caliber and style of play within the Region Re-gion is rather inscrutable and inconsistent at this point in the schedule. Kanab is undefeated, un-defeated, knocking off North Sevier soundly last Saturday at North Sevier, while Paro-won Paro-won enjoyed a tasty upset over Milford and Bryce Valley Val-ley humbled the Beavers at Tropic last weekend. When Round Robin time rolls around next month, the league may or may not be more regulated grooming itself it-self for another packed tournament; especially if the upset trend carries over into the Round Robin. This writer predicts more upsets in the making which usually leaves an "if only" in many of the fans minds, but that's high . school basketball. Friday the North Sevier Wolves will be at Beaver. |
