Show TEMPERS FLARE: M Eioloe, sniveling hole drao GeiiEieil's attention Tempers flared Monday night as Councilman Pet-tey Pet-tey attempted to see if there was some way to speed up the city water project, pro-ject, and complete it before be-fore winter sets in and we're forced to live with dust and mud holes all winter. But Mayor . Young and Councilman Jimenez, who have put countless hours into the project and felt that they were pushing the project as fast as they could with the funds they had to work with, didn't take kindly to the suggestion. sugges-tion. The Mayor , after recounting re-counting hours spent in the city's behalf and hours lost from his job, asked where Councilman Pettey was when the water lines were bursting. Pettey said it wasn't necessary nec-essary to spend 24 hours a day on the water project to keep tabs on it. The Mayor and Pettey then exchanged barbs over the swimming pool, with the Mayor asking if it was properly drained and ready for winter and Pettey charging charg-ing that the Mayor inter -ferred with departments, and took charge instead of letting the department heads handle their own problems. He said, "You give me a job, I want to do it!" In other action, Pettey showed the Council a copy of the survey which the American Problems class will take of local residents to determine if they want a dog leash law, or just enforcement of present laws. Another touchy situation arose when paying a bill for electrical service to Sam Florence. The city has two licensed electrical contractors, con-tractors, and Florence has refused to puchase a license. li-cense. It was he who was hired when a pump motor burned out on the water system. They decided they would not issue a complaint this time, but give him a warning that one would be issued if he proceeds to do electrical work. The water project generally gen-erally is expected to be completed this week, except ex-cept for the rest of the mulching that must be done by city crew. A public hearing to vacate va-cate the street through the new cemetery section received re-ceived no protests and was passed. GaryMalchus asked about the possible extension of the water lines to the airport air-port and weather station. Mayor Young said a preliminary pre-liminary figure indicated the cost of an 8 inch line would be in the neighborhood neighbor-hood of $30,000 for the 6,265 feet. With participation partici-pation from property owners, own-ers, this would be the (Continued on Page 2) HERE'S MORE ABOUT CITY COUNCIL cheapest. However, if the other property owners dont go along, it's possible to put in a two -inch line to service the airport and weather station. Both Del Newdigate and Delmar Kirk have expressed the desire to participate, but Handover Hand-over Co., Ltd., the largest property owner, has not made any commitment. It was noted the previous meeting reported in the COUNTY NEWS indicated that a fee had been set for rental of curb and gutter gut-ter forms. None was decided de-cided upon.
