Show UTAH PINE NUT HARVEST GOOD IN FEW PLACES There is good news for those who like the aroma of roasting pinenuts. A good pinenut crop is available this year in western Beaver and Iron Counties. The crop is very localized due to the summer storm pattern. Only on those sites that received moisture in July were the cones able to complete their growth and produce nuts. The good sites are located in Lopers Cabin area, which is just south of the Mountain Home range; on the east side of the Indian Peaks around the Cougar Spar road; and on the west side of the Indian Peaks range from the Cougar Cou-gar Spar Pass south to Arrowhead Ar-rowhead Pass. The White Rocks area has a poor and scattered crop. These above mentioned areas will be for use by recreational pickers only, no commercial operators oper-ators will be given permits in these areas. Individuals picking for their own use do not need permits. However, the BLM asks that you please obey a few rules : Do not cut or break down trees; do not leave litter, lit-ter, and do not drive vehicles off of established roads. If further information or m aps are needed, please feel free to come to the Beaver River Resource Area office located upstairs in the Federal Fed-eral Building, 82 North 100 East, Cedar City, Utah. The staff will answer your questions ques-tions and give directions to the areas with a good crop of pinenuts. |
