The Tiger defense was tough but a face mask call on fourth down with 17 to go gave the Cowboys new life and a couple of five-yard five-yard penalties kept their momentum mo-mentum going until Kevin Bunting dropped back to pass, from the Milford 30, and was forced to scamper for the first down on the 14. Smelling pay dirt, Steve Martin swept his left end where he was knocked out of bounds on the 3. A running play moved the ball to the 1, but a five-yard penalty slowed progress until the Cowboys blasted over from the eight, with 5:54 left in the first quarter. The ball changed hands on downs until Kanab forced to punt from their own 26 yard line. Dave Pullem took the ball and was hit almost immediately, im-mediately, fumblingto Kanab . on the Tiger 37 yard line. Again the Tigers held and Kanab punted. A penalty forced them to kick over. This high short punt was touched by Kirt Yardley and the Cowboys recovered on the Tiger 33. Utilizing Martin and fullback full-back Mark Corry, the Cowboys Cow-boys stayed to the ground and finally Corry went over the top from the five to give the Cowboys a quick 12 -point lead. They were unable to convert any extra points. There were 7:01 minutes left In the half. In the second half, the Cowboys were destined to ; Mistakes costly as Tigers lose Too many freshman mistakes mis-takes by upper classmen, ; - combined with a powerful of- f ense from the Kanab Cowboys, Cow-boys, spoiled Coach Monte Lee's initial outing with the make mistakes, but Mil-ford's Mil-ford's sputtering offense couldnt take advantage. Martin moved to the seven and then the four before Corry Underwood carried it over for the score. The kick was good and the scoring over as Kanab led 19-0. Milford took to the air, with Mark Nelson and Dave Pullem hitting Randy Keer, and Kirt Yardley for good gains, and using running backs Gary Mayer, Wayne Lounsbury and Barney Thompson. The defense was as tough as the Cowboys had seen, and Barney Thompson, Randy Kerr and Doug Holloway were cited for outstanding plays. The Tigers travel to Parowan Par-owan Friday night and the winner could well pick up the m omentum to m ake it a contender con-tender in the region. Game time is 8:00 pjn. Beaver meets North Sevier Se-vier in Beaver and the Cowboys Cow-boys are idle or will have a practice game. , Tiger fans saw potential in the local team. If Coach Lee is able to shake off the jitters and mistakes, they could be real tough. |
