Show oof fiiO GonilidafGS president for the last few years. Karl owns Minersville Feed in Minersville and is active in community and church. He was chairman of the County Republican party. Karl has a great interest in education, and filled an unexpired term on the State Board of Education. He and wife Phyllis have seven children; Gayle, Jan, Kathy and Annette, all married; mar-ried; Lyla, a student at BYU, and Mark and Colleen, who attend BHS. The COUNTY NEWS has attempted to bring a small report about the local county candidates for county commissioner com-missioner and the school board. In previous issues we have had stories on Chad Johnson, John-son, Allan Hutchings andBill Cox, all candidates for the four -year commission seat. Last week we had stories about Phyllis Truman, candidate candi-date for two-year county commission, and Janelle Farrer, candidate for school board in Beaver District 2. Today's story will wrap up the introduction to the candidates. W. W. "Bill" Firmage is a candidate of the Republican Republi-can ticket for school board, Beaver District 2. He presently pres-ently is completing a four-year four-year term in that capacity. Mr. Firmage was born in j Springville, Utah, Sept. 15, 1920, moved to Beaver, Utah in 1926 and graduated from Beaver High School in 1938. He attended BYU and BAC, now SUSC, for two years before be-fore being called to active duty in the Army. He continued his education by taking correspondence courses while in service for college credit. He attended OCS, received a commission , in the Artillery, and served overseas in the Philippine Islands and was discharged as a Captain in 1946, when he returned to Beaver. He was called to active duty in 1950 during the Korean conflict con-flict and served in Korea for approximately one year, being released in April 1952, when he returned to Beaver to manage the theatre. Bill is married to Ella Stapley and they have three daughters: Mrs. Colleen Dot-son Dot-son of Beaver, Anita, who will be in her second year at BYU, and Sandra, who will be in her first year at BYU. They have four grandchildren. grandchil-dren. He 's been active in the IDS Church, having been Elders i Quorum President, counse-1 counse-1 lor in both Ward and Stake Sunday School and recently released as Finance Clerk for Beaver Stake. He's been a member of Beaver Hospital Board for the past five years, member mem-ber Beaver Housing Authority Author-ity that recently completed the Housing for the Elderly apartments in Beaver, and President of Beaver Lions Club, and is employed by the Utah National Guard as Supply Officer. Karl Truman has served the school board for many years, and is unopposed for re-election. He's served as Dr. E. T. Henri is a candidate can-didate for School Board, Beaver District 1. Since coming to Beaver, he has been active in community com-munity and church affairs, along with his medical practice. prac-tice. He has been involved with the County Medical Assn. in maintaining good hospitals and medical services . He helped to reorganize the County Health Program after withdrawal from the FCAG Southwestern District Health. He was influential in withdrawing from that organization. organ-ization. Howard Pryor, democratic democrat-ic candidate for the two -year commission seat, is no newcomer new-comer to county politics. Howard served previously on the commission, and as Mayor of Minersville. A lifetime life-time re si dent of Minersville, he is owner of Pryor's Merc. A great community booster boost-er and supporter, he will work hard to take care of Beaver County. There is only one primary race in Beaver County. That of Bill Cox and Allan Hutchings, Hutch-ings, for the Re publican candidacy can-didacy for the 4-year County Commission seat. However, there are many state and national races on the Primary Ballot, which is published on Page 6 of this issue. Become familiar with the candidates, and vote Tuesday, September 14th, for the candidate of your choice. Primaries are important im-portant and if you fail to go to the polls, you lose your privilege of selecting the people who will spend your tax dollars, and who will formulate the policies you and your children must live by.
