Show When the stores open after you read this issue of the COUNTY NEWS, many Milford Mil-ford Merchants will be kicking kick-ing off their Christmas give- ; away and local shoppers will be eligible for chances on j prizes from participating j merchants as well as eleven $50.00 cash gifts. ; You needn't do anything i special, just get your coupons cou-pons each time you spend $5.00 in cash at any of the participating merchants, sign your name and place in the box available in each participating store. It's just their way of saying, say-ing, "Thanks for shopping in Milford". .-o- ; Looks, like President Ford is weakening on bailing New j York out of their plight. We can only wonder where it will stop if he does. The liberal congress of the past several years has been unable un-able to say 'no' to anything. Very few, except Sen. Jake Garn, have spine enough to tell it like it is. But they ! are still in such a minority I that Congress cannot be trusted to have fiscal re- j sponsibility. ; We believe that a federal bail-out will lead to a bankrupt bank-rupt U.S. and lead the way for a take-over by outside forces. ' -0- The liberal element 'pooh- ( pooh' the possibility say- i ing that our Constitution will not permit such a take-over by peaceful means but admit only when cornered that the chaos of economic instability, and moral irre- ; sponsibility, are more likely ! the tools for revolution than invasion andor insurrection, insurrec-tion, j -0- - I Certainly there are many other cities and states in the nation who are on the brink ( of foreclosure possibly some worse, but not as big as New York City. Certainly Certain-ly the federal government is in worse fiscal condition -saved only by the power to print more money, no longer long-er backed by gold or silver, only the Integrity of the federal fed-eral government, which may be reaching its lowest ebb. -0- Many consider the President's Presi-dent's refusal too harsh. But can the country afford to continue con-tinue to be everybody's patsy? pat-sy? We believe that refusal to bail out New York City could be the most effective tool there is in putting the whole country back on a sound fiscal basis. Mayors and councilmen everywhere would have to face their responsibility. Congressmen would before- ed to reckon with the pos- j sibility that taxpayers everywhere every-where might say 'no' to their pork barrel legislation. -0- What would a New York City default cost? Very little we Ix'lieve for those cities and towns that have good i fiscal policies. Just delay not forfeiture for those holding NYC municipal se- curities. ; Commuter taxes, decentralization decen-tralization of industry, sound fiscal policies, responsible but not extravagent welfare programs, unemployment without benefits for those J who refuse to accept avail- ! able work, or refuse to travel tra-vel to available employment. Are these things really so ' j bad? I True, some will suffer j during the transition as is 1 always true. But the end result re-sult will be a far better country, with fiscally responsible re-sponsible bureaucrats and politicians. It's tinrj to bite the nail. "" Got a phone call from Ernie Eberhart last week telling us that the BLM team that is to write the environmental environ-mental Impact statement on alunite was finally complete and should actually get a couple of day's work in by j Thanksgiving. j Seems the team under Hal I f Issacson that is charged with j writing the E.I.S. for "alu- I nite" and the "Warner Val- i ley Project" has been increased in-creased from 10 men as first proposed at the time of 'reorganization', 're-organization', to the present 20 men. Ernie is the team leader (Continued on Page 4) j I i - i L HERE'S MORE ABOUT j JUST BETWEEN ) (Continued from Page Onet on the alunite E.I.S. While the several month's delay is i no surprise and is just as i predicted by this writer when 1 protesting the BLM reorgan- ization we hope they will not waste a minute getting at the job. -0- , Sure hope Gam's bill, .; which would eliminate about j two -thirds of the bulky de - tails in the E.P.A.'s require- : merits on environmental im- ) pact statements gets rushed through. Won't hurj to lend ' your support with a letter to J all the other congressional representatives. -0- . Oh, yeah! While you're . writing, tell'em to get after 'y the USGS Environmental Board acting on Phillips Pe- : troleum geothermal permits j for wells in Roosevelt Springs KGRA. : Seems they've been sitting J on the permits inMenlo Park for several months and if ' they are not approved very 1 soon, Phillips will have to . pull the rig out and go to ' Idaho where they have permits. per-mits. Just more bureaucra- ; tic red tape, with the result being more expense for Phillips Phil-lips Petroleum and less em -ployrnent in Milford. |
